Ok, this isn't a post..mostly just a questions:
If you're writing an English composition, is it safer to write it in the past tense or present tense?

if you're writing an argumentative/informational essay, past tense is good. if you're writing a creative essay, either tense works depending on the effect you want to create. the main point is to be consistent in the tense when writing the composition (unless, again, you're doing flash-forwards and flashbacks). :-D.

I agree with you about flashbacks -
I don't think my student knows what flash-forward means though (truthfully).
